Tina Washburn, Principal, Worton Elementary School
Dear Worton Families:
It is a privilege to be the new principal at Worton Elementary School. My goal for the next few months is to get to know students and parents, as well as the strengths and needs of our school family. I believe that in working together as a team, we will ensure success and learning for all our students and prepare them to be productive citizens in our society.
Let me share a little bit about myself. I have been an educator for 20 years and have worked as an elementary and middle school teacher in Hanover, Fairfax, and York counties in Virginia. In York County, I worked as a K-12 Instructional Specialist in English/Reading/Title I and then as an elementary school assistant principal for three years. I came to Kent two years ago as the Title I and 21st Century Grants Coordinator. I hold a Doctorate in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!).
The staff and I will work hard to continue the success of the previous school year by maintaining strong relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. This year we will again focus on data to inform instruction and on implementing the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards. We will also continue our character education initiatives through our work as a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school.
Please take a minute to stop in and introduce yourself and to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this a very successful year for Worton Elementary School. I will be at school between July 9th and July 24th. On most Tuesdays in July, I will be at professional development sessions in Rock Hall, and the office is closed on Fridays during the summer. I will be at a Professional Learning Communities training from July 28th – July 31st.
Enjoy your time with family and friends this summer. August will be here before we know it! I look forward to hearing students’ stories of their adventures, special days, and favorite activities.
Please invite your children to bring in some artwork, a piece of writing, a photograph, or anything they would like to share with me. I would love to display their work in my office to start the school year. This will help me get to know them and prepare for our first day of school on August 25th. I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children.
