It is with great enthusiasm we share with you that Mrs. Mary Brown has been nominated as Worton Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year and Sharon Steward, as the Support Person of the Year.
Mary Brown, 5th grade teacher, has served as an elementary teacher in our system for over 6 years. Her genuine love and passion for teaching (and her students) inspire and impact all those she comes in contact with daily. Her day does not end when the last bell rings. She is an active member of our PTA, serves on our Guiding Coalition and School Improvement Team. Her ongoing efforts and outreach have improved our school.
This year alone, we have watched Mrs. Brown help her students build their skills and leadership by adopting and caring for their Pre-K buddies. Not only did her students dress like 100 year olds on the 100th day of school but she did too as they decomposed the number 100 and did many other engaging math activities. She emphasizes the joy in learning.
Parents love the weekly electronic updates and reminders she provides. Staff appreciates her school spirit, energy, and the way she works with everyone in our school to create a true sense of community.
A parent shared,
“She is such a caring teacher and works so hard to help all of her students be successful. She always smiles, and if her students do not understand something she continues to help them until they get it. I have never walked in her room when she wasn’t helping a child or just taking the time to listen to one.”
Sharon Steward, our 2014 Support Person of the Year is a quiet and very caring person. Day in and out, she shows concern and support to the students and staff in our school.
As far as her duties go, you can tell where she has been because you will see the students smiling. She lives by the Golden Rule, “treat others they way you want them to treat you.” Mrs. Steward begins each day by greeting students with a smile and offering a gentle hand to guide them safely to the classroom. During lunch, she will check to see if help is needed or offers an ear to listen to students’ worries.
According to her co-worker,
“She is always positive with students and staff alike, and is willing to do whatever is requested of her. This person has worked most frequently with one particular student in my classroom my year and has helped this student make significant progress.
Please help us congratulate Mrs. Sharon Steward and Mrs. Mary Brown.
