ROCK HALL — Kent County Public Schools added four doctors to the house this spring.
Several years of hard work paid off for four staff members based at Kent County High School who earned their doctorates.
Dr. Cheryl Bachmann is a history teacher. Dr. Jessica Clough teaches the Teacher Academy of Maryland program and math. Dr. Devon Jenkins is a school counselor. Dr. Caren Saunders teaches English for speakers of other languages, commonly referred to as ESOL.
All four were recognized for their achievement at a Kent County Board of Education meeting held Monday, May 12.
Director of Human Resources Dan Hushion made the announcement, saying the educators put a tremendous amount of time and effort to reach this degree in just about three years.
"They are demonstrated leaders in our school system," Hushion said. "They all have taken on various leadership roles in their time here, specifically at Kent County High School."
They all began their doctoral programs at Bowie State University about three years ago thanks to financial support made available by a state grant program called the Maryland Leads Initiative.
All four doctors are continuing their education. They are working toward becoming National Board Certified Teachers.
"They will be the first set of staff that we have who hold a doctoral degree and National Board Certification," Hushion said.
